Week ago Ledger has announced special limited edition of Nano S hardware wallet which was released on eight anniversary when the first documented real-world Bitcoin transaction took place. This event happened on 22nd of May, 2010 when Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas. At that time, his transaction was worth exactly $41. Today, it would be worth more than $84 million.Ledger team reached out to Laszlo and received positive feedback for the idea to go ahead with development for Pizza Day limited edition wallets. They also asked Laszlo for his point of view on event that took place almost a decade ago.
This is what Laszlo Hanyecz said about that day:
“Bitcoin was just a fun hobby project for me 8 years ago. When I paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas I had no idea that Bitcoin would eventually become as popular as it is today, with people using it for real world transactions every day.”
Pizza Day is a good reminder for all crypto enthusiasts about how quickly the crypto asset can develop in relatively small time frame. Today we are witnessing development of different crypto currencies that are fighting for investors and chance to become equal or even better that the original. Time will tell… who could imagine that Laszlo could be a multimillionaire if he stored his Bitcoin instead of spending it on two pizzas.
Ledger has prepared 1.337 units that came packaged in appropriate anniversary deigned boxes; all of them were sold out by the end of the week for the price around €148 per piece.
